Better differentiation of Skill visibility

With additional checkboxes, you can now determine whether a skill is visible on a Vacancy and Contact Person. MSR-967 | Sep 2024

Who is this feature for?

All customers who use the Skills functionality will benefit from this improvement.

Benefits for you as a user

  • More control over the application of skills
  • Skills are more flexibly deployable

Explanation of this new feature

Previously, a skill was automatically visible on these objects if you enabled the 'Use for Candidates' tickbox. This behaviour has now changed.

With these additional tickboxes in the Skill Definition, you can now determine whether a skill is visible on the Vacancy and Contact Person objects:

  • Use for Contact Persons
  • Use for Vacancies

This means you can now also specify that a skill applies exclusively to Candidates, Contact Persons or Vacancies.

How is the distinction made between a candidate and a contact person?

To determine whether a skill should be displayed for a person, we look at the record type. If you have defined whether the record type is for a candidate and/or contact person via the Custom Metadata Types: Person Record Type Settings, that will be decisive. If no setting is found, a skill with either 'Use for Contact Persons' or 'Use for Candidates' selected is shown for all persons.

What does this mean for my existing skills?

For your existing skills where the 'Use for Candidates' tickbox was enabled, the new 'Use for Contact Persons' and 'Use for Vacancies' tickboxes will be automatically enabled to preserve existing functionality. This happens automatically when this version is installed.

Feature Implementation Time (FIT)

  • Simple implementation: < 30 minutes

Setup
Ensure that users managing skill definitions have the correct field permissions for the new fields. This concerns the 'Use for Contact Persons' and 'Use for Jobs' fields in the Skill Definitions object.

If you plan to make changes to your existing skills, note the following:

If you intend to adjust your existing skills, be cautious when disabling 'Use for Candidates' and 'Use for Vacancies'. If the skill definition is used in a Job Alert condition, you will receive a notification that disabling is not possible. Disabling can only occur after the Job Alert condition has been adjusted.
