Document Types can now be translated in a Multilingual Environment

From this version onward, document types can be translated, displaying the translated name in the document list. MSR-1045 | Feb 2025

Who is this feature for?
This feature is useful for client environments with multilingual users.

Benefits

  • Improved support for users in different languages.

How it works

A new picklist field is available in the document types object, allowing you to define the translated label. You can then enter the appropriate description for relevant languages through the translation of picklist values.

In the document list, users will see the translated description based on their language settings. If no value is selected for a document type, the label field of the document type itself will always be displayed.

In Dutch, this looks as follows:

rn1-1-Jan-20-2025-07-40-14-2250-AM

An English-speaking user will see it as follows:

MSR-1045 EN

 Feature Implementation Time (FIT)

  • Very simple implementation: < 15 minutes

Setup
To use this feature, complete the following configuration steps:

Permissions
A new field has been added to the document types object: Translatable Document Type. Grant users read access to this field, while administrators should have full permissions.

Object management – Document types
Add the new field Translatable Document Type to the page layout. Under fields and relationships, add new values to the picklist Translatable Document Type. Copy the unique name for settings of the document type you want to translate and add it to this picklist. By default, this list already includes the value CV.

Translation
You can translate this picklist value via Setup, then Translation. Select the language, choose Picklist Value as the installation component, and select Document Type as the object. Enter the translation for the added document values and verify the Dutch translation for the copied value. Once a translation is set for a document type, the picklist value will always be displayed in the overview instead of the document type label field.
